Whirld! takes place in 1893, the height of the steam era and the expansion of inventions and technological advances. In a steampunk setting blending the Victorian Era with advancing technology, the story begins in London, and characters travel to other parts of the world, including the World's Fair in Chicago.
The theme of the show explores "the impossible" through different perspectives. An eccentric wealthy Englishman makes a wager that he can prove that nothing is impossible, if the stakes are high enough. He uses state-of-the-art technology to search London for people saying the words “it’s impossible,” and then invites them all to participate in a game – they have 80 days to achieve that which they labeled “impossible” and if they are successful, they will receive riches beyond their dreams. Thropp believes that this experiment will prove that, given a great enough incentive, people will begin to stretch their visions of what is possible and what can be accomplished with their lives.
The individuals he has gathered quickly realize that they can increase their chances if they work together rather than individually. They attempt to collaborate, even though there inherent tensions and misunderstandings between them. Their quest takes them on adventures through several countries while experiencing many trials and tribulations. Along the way, they learn about teamwork, sacrifice, hope and adversity. But will Thropp win his wager and will they navigate the challenges and reach their goals and the untold riches?
